Dr Oz: Portobello Mushrooms Hungry Girl Meat Expander Calories

Dr Oz: Replace Carbs with Zucchini for Fewer Calories

Dr. Oz and his guest Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien are diving right in and telling you how you can Eat Twice as Much and Lose 5 Pounds. Lisa says her concept of Food Expanders is the key to eating more food without adding extra calories to your plate. She promises if you follow her simple food expander guidelines you will lose 5 pounds this month, even during the holidays, with foods like her Hungry Girl Meat Expander.

Hungry Girl: Spaghetti Squash & Quinoa Pasta

Many people have lost a large amount of weight while following the Hungry Girl Guidelines to expand their food. Two women who have been successful shared their favorite ways to expand two dishes they enjoy most often.

  • Spaghetti and Meatballs ? Substitute half the spaghetti for spaghetti squash. It will bulk up the volume of your dish without the extra calories while leaving you feeling full and satisfied.
  • Pasta Salad ? Replace the pasta with quinoa. Quinoa is loaded with fiber, so this will not only give you less calories than pasta, but it will also fill you up.

Dr Oz: Portobello Mushrooms Hungry Girl Meat Expander

Portobello Mushrooms ? They are meaty in texture and can bulk up so many meals, making them a great expander for your favorite meat dish.

  • Burgers -You can make a double ?burger? by making a traditional meat patty and adding a Portobello mushroom as the second patty, so you have all of the flavor, but not so many calories.
  • Pasta Bolognese ? Lisa Lillien says this is just like a traditional Bolognese, but you replace some of the meat with portobellos, so you still get the delicious flavor and pasta, but not the same amount of calories if the dish was made entirely with meat.
  • Steak Fajitas ? Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien says to cut Portobello mushrooms into strips that resemble the steak strips in this fajita dish and nobody can even tell the difference. Dr. Oz was even stunned by the visual appearance, commenting that they look very similar.
  • Meatloaf ? Lisa says to replace part of the meat in your meatloaf recipe with a heaping cup of mushrooms to bulk it up.

Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien says a great way to expand your favorite meat dishes is to replace part of the meat with Portobello Mushrooms. They offer a similar meaty texture, but have far fewer calories.

Zucchini ? Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien says she loves zucchini as a carb expander because it is delicious and also very versatile.

  • Lasagna ? Make you traditional lasagna recipe, but just replace every other layer of noodles with zucchini slices. You still get all of the flavor and pasta you crave, but you will feel full and have eaten fewer calories.
  • Muffins ? Lisa says you do not need as much calorie-filled flour when you bulk up your muffin recipe with zucchini.
  • Potato Skin ? Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien says this might be her favorite carb expander recipe. She says instead of using potatoes, cut up some zucchini and add all of the same ingredients (low-fat of course) that you love in your usual potato skin recipe, but instead it is with zucchini.
  • Fettuccine Alfredo ? This by far is one of the most loved recipes, according to Lisa Lillien. You still use pasta, but replace half of it with zucchini that is sliced to appear like noodles and you still have a delicious dish that has fewer calories, or as Lisa calls it Zucchinicine. I can personally say that I have done this myself and it tasted amazing and it was a huge hit with my entire family.

Dr Oz: Seltzer Water Splurging Expander

Lisa Lillien admits we all splurge, especially over the holidays. We splurge on cakes, cookies, and cupcakes, but Hungry Girl has an expander to lower the calories in our favorite sweet treats, allowing you to enjoy them without any guilt.

Flavored Seltzer Water ? In most boxed cake mixes, you are told to add oil, eggs, or butter, but Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien says to simply buy different flavors of Seltzer Water and add them to the batter and bake. She says to be sure you buy unsweetened seltzer water that has just a hint of flavor, but your boxed mixes will now have less fat and calories and even come out fluffier and tasting better.
