England take lead against India on the third day - Cricket News Roundup ? Part 1 ? December 08, 2012

On the third day of the third Test against India, visitors England have secured a lead by 193 runs with four wickets in hand, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Alastair Cook?s solid knock of 190 was the highlight of the day, as this innings served as a lifeline for the Poms, who completely dominated their hosts right from the get go.

After having ended the second day of play with 216 for one, Cook and IJL Trott resumed England?s onslaught as the two continued to punish the bowlers, preventing them any success.

Cook was not the only batsman who was a matter of concern for India, as Trott finished after smashing 87, followed by a 54-run knock from Kevin Pietersen.

With MJ Prior unbeaten on 40 for 46, England are in a position to secure a lead of more than 200 runs, which will sink India in this match.

West Indies rule Bangladesh in their fourth ODI, which was played on Friday at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

This is a shattering defeat for the hosts, as after winning the opening two games, the series is now levelled with the finale all set to decide the fate of both sides.

West Indies did not post the score they might have wanted to as they were restricted on 211, giving Bangladesh an opportunity to wrap up the series with a win.

However, the tourists?enforced their might by bowling-out their opponents in 34.1 overs with 136 on the board, winning the match by 75 runs.

DJG Sammy, who hammered an unbeaten knock of 60 runs and then took three wickets, was named as the Player of the Match.

Waqar Younis, Pakistan?s former pacer, believes that India?s master blaster Sachin Tendulkar needs to play for the national team for one more year, as there is no room for Sachin?s retirement while looking at the current form of the Indian team.

?The situation in which the Indian team finds itself at the moment...from what we find out from the ongoing England series, I believe that he (Tendulkar) would be needed for another 6-8 months, these talks that Sachin should take retirement from cricket have been going on for past 6-7 years. I have always seen that whenever you have criticised him, he has come up with a performance that everyone starts talking about his batting," he said.
